Amy Carlson

Amy Carlson was born in Glen Ellyn in Illinois and was raised in Chicago. Amy lived with her family in Chicago when she was in junior high. Her parents, Bob, and Barb taught at the American School in the Middle East. Amy is the oldest of three siblings: Betsy, Lori, and brother Joe. Amy has traveled all over Europe with her family , and on her own. They were both teachers and could travel and camp with each other every summer due to this. They've stayed in every state, with the exception of Alaska. Amy also went to Rwanda after the war in 1994 to aid relief efforts. Early on, Amy showed artistic talent acting in school productions and winning writing contests. In high school she was a dazzling athlete who finished in the first ever 3200-meter relay in Illinois girls track. After sustaining an injury, she was able to go back to theater , and played a variety roles such as Lanford Wilson's "Fifth of July" and Wallace Shawn's directorial "Aunt Dan and Lemon". Amy was a Knox College student from Galesburg, Illinois. She graduated with a B.A. East Asian history, with a concentration in Theater. After graduation, she moved to Chicago where she pursued studies in Improv at The Improv Olympics as well as acting at The Actor's Center. A job as a contract actress on the now defunct soap drama Another World (1964) moved her to NYC shortly after her graduation. She was nominated for the "Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Daytime Drama Series" category for Daytime Emmy Award. The most memorable of her roles were of strong women as Alex Taylor in Third Watch (1999), Maggie Pistone in Falcone (2000), Katie Owen in Peacemakers (2003) alongside Tom Berenger in Peacemakers (2003) and Linda Reagan in Blue Bloods. Carlson lives in New York City with husband Syd Butler, bassist for Les Savy Fav, where she also works in the independent music business as part-owner of an independent label "Frenchkiss Records". Amy is continuing to write and seek out diverse and unique roles in the world of film.
